Happy Garden

It's been sometime since the last garden update but lots has been happening both in life and in plant life. These photos were taken back in early July and then neglected until today.

We were very excited to see what kind of wildflowers were coming into bloom in the garden.

These are some very pretty small yet to be identified flowers.

I bought a pack of wildflower seeds when I visited the west coast and we decided to plant the Ontario wild flower and the BC flowers at the entrance of the garden so I'm not sure which ones are which yet.

We did finally bite the bullet and weeded out this three leaved tiny white flower seen in this picture. They had spread all over the garden and had quite a rapid growth rate. There root system allowed them to cover and start to choke out our clover so we spent the better half of the day ripping them out.

I want to take a moment to tell you guys about the bird bath we put in the middle of the garden. It's important in permaculture to place a pond or some kind of water source in your garden. We chose the easiest thing which also happened to be what was freely available for use.

The advantages of having a bird bath as a centerpiece is that it welcomes birds into the garden so they can munch on some pests and not to mention that it's amazing to see how often it's used. I'm constantly surprised by how much bird activity the garden gets !

Anyways, back to the weeds all that hard work was well worth it though because the garden looks very lush and green !

We found some old bamboo stakes left behind by the previous gardeners and decided it was time to give our plants some added support in preparation for a big tomato yield.

The kale is growing nicely and everything looks so healthy and happy !
